Its Not Meant To Look Classically Beautiful Chappell Roans Makeup Artist Breaks Down Her Vmas Look

‘It’s not meant to look classically beautiful’: Chappell Roan’s makeup artist breaks down her VMAs look

Makeup artist** Jaleesa Jaikaran** shared the reason for singer Chappell Roan's unique **VMAs look**

Roan, who wore a custom **Alexander McQueen** catsuit to the awards ceremony, went for a daring beauty look on **Sunday, August 28** that was unlike anything else on the red carpet.

Her makeup artist **Jaleesa Jaikaran** explained the inspiration behind the look in an interview with Page Six Style, saying, "**Chappell**’s stylist **Ian Bradley** told me that he had a very specific vision for her makeup, and he was right—he wanted something that was edgy, glam and messy, and not meant to look classically beautiful."

Jaikaran started by prepping Roan's skin with a **Dior** primer and foundation, then used a **Danessa Myricks Beauty** concealer to highlight her under-eyes, cheekbones and nose. She set the makeup with a **Laura Mercier** translucent powder and added a touch of **Fenty Beauty's** pink blush to the apples of her cheeks.

For her eyes, Jaikaran used a mix of **Pat McGrath Labs** eyeshadows in shades of **gold, copper** and **bronze**, blending them up to her crease. She then lined her eyes with a **MAC Cosmetics** black liquid liner and added a few coats of **L'Oréal Paris' Voluminous** mascara.

The finishing touch was a bold red lip, created using **MAC Cosmetics' Ruby Woo** lipstick. Jaikaran also applied a layer of **Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb** over the top for extra shine.

Roan's makeup look was a perfect complement to her edgy, glamorous outfit, and it helped her stand out on the **VMAs** red carpet. It's a great example of how makeup can be used to create a unique and memorable look.
