France advances to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after a 3-1 win over Poland

Olivier Giroud scored the opening goal to become France’s all-time men’s top scorer, while Kylian Mbappé added two more in the second half.

Poland got a goal back through Robert Lewandowski late on, but it was not enough to prevent France from advancing to the next round.

France will now face England in the quarter-finals on Saturday, while Poland’s World Cup journey comes to an end.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

France started the match brightly and took the lead in the 44th minute through Giroud.

The goal was Giroud’s 52nd for France, moving him one ahead of Thierry Henry as the country’s all-time men’s top scorer.

France doubled their lead in the 74th minute through Mbappé.

The goal was Mbappé’s fifth of the tournament, moving him level with Lionel Messi as the leading scorer.

Mbappé added his second of the match in the 90th minute to seal the win for France.

Poland got a goal back through Lewandowski in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late.

The win sees France advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where they will face England on Saturday.

Poland’s World Cup journey comes to an end, but they can be proud of their performance in Qatar.
