Joshua David Shapiro, born June 20, 1973, is an American politician and attorney who has served as the 48th governor of Pennsylvania since 2023. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Shapiro was raised in Pennsylvania's Montgomery County. After graduating from Harvard Law School, he went on to serve in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate.
In 2016, Shapiro was elected as Pennsylvania's Attorney General. In this role, he gained a reputation as a tough-on-crime prosecutor and a strong advocate for consumer protection. In 2022, Shapiro announced his candidacy for governor, pledging to "build a better Pennsylvania for all."
In November 2022, Josh Shapiro made history as the highest vote-getter in Pennsylvania gubernatorial history. Alongside his running mate Austin Davis, Josh is the first Democratic gubernatorial candidate to win in 12 years.
